Pediatric Nursing

This two-day workshop is designed for those registered professional nurses who are considering taking the ANCC examination in Pediatric Nursing.

The purpose of this course is for the nurse who has extensive experience in pediatric practice and who demonstrates knowledge and abilities related to pediatric nursing beyond basic RN licensure to prepare for examination as a certified Pediatric Nurse. Pediatric nursing includes health promotion, acute and chronic illness management and health restoration of infants, children, adolescents and their families. Pediatric nurses practice in a variety of settings and roles such as direct caregiver, educator, and consultant, advocate or care coordinator. Pediatric nurses assess, analyze, plan and implement nursing interventions and evaluate outcomes.

Upon successful completion of this workshop, participants will be able to:
  • Describe the technique for preparing for the Pediatric Nursing
    Certification exam.
  • Overview of scope and standards of pediatric nursing.
  • Review assessment of pediatric patient.
  • Identify environmental factors that influence the health of the patient
    ​and family. 
  • Discuss the care management of pediatric patient.
  • Identify the most common technical and clinical skills/procedures.
  • Develop and implement plan of care based on the psychosocial assessment.
  • Discuss strategies for managing chronic illness in the pediatric population.
  • Discuss the professional role of the pediatric nurse.
  • Discuss nursing management of clinical conditions common in pediatric population.
  • Discuss the importance of reviewing examination questions.
