Gerontology

This comprehensive, two-day workshop is the key to success for registered nurses who are planning to take the ANCC Gerontological Certification Examination in Nursing. This course coincides with the blueprint for the examination as specified by the administering agency, providing core concentration on those areas identified.

The Gerontological Nursing Certification exam is computerized and offered throughout the year. A test site can be established online at www.nursecredentialing.org.

Upon successful completion of this workshop, participants will be able to:
  • Discuss the normal aging process and the developmental theories in relation to the older adult.
  • Discuss pathophysiological changes in relation to the older adult.
  • Identify pharmacological and nutritional issues in relation to the older adult.
  • Define adult learning principles.
  • Define educational outcomes and evaluation techniques and strategies for the care of the older adult.
  • Discuss health promotion and wellness requirements for the older adult.
  • Discuss legal and ethical issues related to aging.
  • Define research, management and leadership concerns and issues in relation to the aging process and the older adult.
  • Identify lifestyle and aging-related issues of vulnerability in the older adult.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the scope of Gerontological nursing practice and application of the nursing process to the care of the older adult.

In order to receive CHs\CEUs, participants are required to attend both sessions and complete an evaluation.
