Pediatric Hematology/Oncology (CPHON)Pediatric Hematology Oncology nursing is a unique specialty that is complex and challenging. The nurse cares for children, adolescent or young adults who are undergoing treatment such as chemotherapy, biotherapy, immunosuppressants, bone marrow transplants, radiation, and surgical interventions.
The nurse provides patient care that includes support and education of the patient as well as their family through all stages of treatment. Some of the topics nurses guide the patient through include hair loss, major life changes and sometimes palliative care. This program will provide the current standards of practice in this specialty area in order for the nurse to prepare for and take the CPHON certification examination and to bring that knowledge back to patient care. |
