This two-day workshop is designed for registered professional nurses who are interested in garnering a deeper understanding of telemetry and EKG skills.

In today’s health care setting, patients requiring telemetry monitoring as well as EKG interpretation can be admitted into almost any specialty area. Nurses working with these patients require the competency to quickly respond to and manage them appropriately. Participants of the program will review the physiology, pathophysiology and nursing treatment protocols for cardiac patients and patients who are on telemetry monitoring.

Upon successful completion of this workshop, participants will be able to:
  • Discuss the anatomy and physiology pertaining to cardiac rhythms.
  • Identify sinus cardiac rhythms and potential treatment methods.
  • Identify atrial cardiac rhythms and potential treatment methods.
  • Identify junctional cardiac rhythms and potential treatment methods.
  • Identify ventricular cardiac rhythms and potential treatment methods.
  • Identify Atrial-Ventricular Block cardiac rhythms and potential
    ​treatment methods.
  • Explain paced cardiac rhythms and potential treatment methods.
  • Interpret 12 Lead EKGs.
  • Identify life threatening cardiac rhythms.
  • Compare and contrast various cardiac rhythm.
  • Discuss basic cardiac pharmacology.
  • Discuss key components and implications of Acid Base Gases (ABGs).
  • Discuss selected Electrolyte Disturbances as well as the patient
    presenting symptoms.
  • Recognize and provide the intervention for the disruptions of electrolyte balance, ABG imbalance as identified on ECG rhythm strips.
