Neonatal Nursing 

With more than forty thousand premature and underweight babies being born each year the US, the need for skilled neonatal nursing professionals has never been greater.

With advanced technology, babies born as young as 25 weeks are surviving more often than ever. Recent studies have repeatedly demonstrated the importance of specialized neonatal infant care in the survival, stabilization, and development of healthy babies. This program is intended for novice and experienced neonatal nurses alike and is designed to be a clinical review that builds a stronger foundation for your nursing practice and to assist in preparing for specialty certification in neonatal nursing. Participants of the program will review the physiology, pathophysiology and nursing treatment protocols for the care of neonatal patients.

Upon successful completion of this workshop, participants will be able to:
  • Discuss the anatomy, physiology, and management of the neonatal cardiovascular system.
  • Discuss anatomy, physiology, and management of the neonatal issues of the endocrine system.
  • Discuss anatomy, physiology, and management of the neonatal gastrointestinal system.
  • Discuss anatomy, physiology, and management of the neonatal hematology and immunology systems.
  • Discuss anatomy, physiology, and management of the neonatal integumentary system.
  • Discuss anatomy, physiology, and management of multisystem issues of
    the neonate.
  • Discuss anatomy, physiology, and management of the neonatal musculoskeletal system.
  • Discuss anatomy, physiology, and management of neonatal neurology.
  • Compare and contrast case studies of day 1 neonatal system issues.
  • Discuss anatomy, physiology, and management of the neonatal
    pulmonary system.
  • Discuss anatomy, physiology, and management of the neonatal
    ​renal system.
  • Discuss advocacy, caring practices, and diversity in relation to neonatal nursing practice.
  • Discuss clinical inquiry, collaboration, and systems thinking.
  • Discussion of test taking strategies, overview of CCRN exam, and next steps after successful completion.
