This comprehensive, two-day workshop is the key to success for registered nurses who are planning to take the ENA examination for Certification in Emergency Nursing. The CEN exam is computerized and offered throughout the year. The website at www.ena.org will guide you through the eligibility and application process.
The nurse will be able to assess and measure their level of knowledge necessary to function at the current competency levels in accordance with the Standards of Emergency Nursing.
Upon successful completion of this workshop, participants will be able to:
• Describe techniques for preparing for the certification exam in emergency nursing.
• Outline the legal, ethical and professional responsibilities of the emergency department nurse.
• Relate the pathophysiologic basis of various diseases using the nursing process, including evaluation of effectiveness of nursing care of various emergency patients, including nursing assessment and interventions.
Twelve (12.0) contact hours will be awarded for this work-shop. In order to receive contact hours, participants are required to attend both days and complete an evaluation on Day 2.
Faculty: Frank C. Druse III, RN, MS, MI-IA, CEN, CPEN
Frank C. Druse III is a Board Certified Emergency Room nurse who has experience in transplantation coordination, staff education, policy development and research, as well as serving in leadership roles in the Emergency Department. His presentations on various components of emergency nursing have been well-received. Mr. Druse is enthusiastic about emergency nursing and attends several conferences annually to update his skills and to learn new ideas.
DAY ONE:
Topics to be covered include:
• Information about the exam Format, time limit, presentation
• Test taking strategies
• Legal review of nursing in the ER Respiratory emergencies
• Neurologic emergencies OB/GYN emergencies
• Cardiac emergencies
• GI emergencies
DAY TWO:
Topics to be covered include:
• Trauma nursing
• Medical emergencies musculoskeletal emergencies
• Genitourinary emergencies Pediatric emergencies
• Psychiatric and lifestyle emergencies
